I'm not a Marine but I wish I were.

Since the USMC does everything the Army, Navy, and Air Force does at some level and some that they don't do (like Embassy Detachments), an alternative would be shift all those missions to the USMC and do away with the rest.

The Marines have the coolest uniforms anyway.

That's why they are so big on "Vertical Envelopment." And why they wanted the Osprey so bad.

That may work in a Vietnam like environment. It won't work against any modern army.

I luv US Marines. They are some of the bravest of infantrymen. True patriots all.
The fact is USMC Infantry Divisions are no match for a conventional army mechanized infantry or armor division. Once our Marines get 15 or more miles from the sea, they have to have support from the US Army...both logistical support and indirect fire support.

FWIW the Osprey is a joke. I am not aware of a single landing and/or pickup from a hot LZ. The little growler vehicles that the USMC had manufactured to fit in an Osprey were all grounded for not meeting GSA combat vehicle specs. Sure the Osprey can insert very small numbers of Marines, but it can't insert needed vehicles with their supplies.
