Hmmmmm...maybe Murphy saw some AMAT employees in Trikon's
parking lot and got excited.

Seriously...I have to agree that a takeover is less imminent.
I guess I am a long-term holder...for better or for worse.

To the two Daves...I had a chuckle over your replies.

GOOD luck, JF

Max...it looks like TRKN gave up on etch ..cause they could not compete against the big boys in the .35u and .25u area.....TRKN was ready for .18u but the industry is not. I think they may get some more money from additional license deals....Their focus now is low k and Cu.....what happens is anyones guess.

Max to finish off my reply....I don't think they are going to make it on their own....No matter what they develop in CVD and PVD....they will never have enough money to make it...They need alot of money to pedal new technology.

However, someone may still want to buy them...Take LRCX...they have a good etch program....But they could still use the MORI source. LRCX is about to dump their CVD program and they have no PVD program.

The stage looks like it's set for a LRCX buyout...TRKN lays off all the etch folks...LRCX dosen't need them...they shut down the Chatsworth facility for the most part and move all remaining stuff up to their Fremont location to continue to develop MORI. The low k and the regular flowfill provide a CVD technology that is in successful use today and the Forcefill provides a working Al PVD solution with Cu around the corner. That would round off LRCX's bag of tools fairly well...etch, CVD, PVD, CMP, and CU (dual damasene)R&D in progress.

Sounds good to me....wonder how Greg feels about it.

Plus Bagley talked about some event in November that would enhance their Oxide etch systems....I wonder if that was a hint of an acquisition.

max, I have been warning of the comming massacre in the semi and tech for about six weeks now, just two weeks before the first big blood letting. I think winter will be long, maybe until June. I had a target of 25 for AMAT, I think I'll have to revise it. My target of low teens for MU is still operative.
