Buddy, look at this chart. This tracks historical mandatory spending and discretionary spending back to 1965. Mandatory spending was caused by Presidents who signed into law Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security. Reagan did not sign these laws. He is not responsible for the huge Mandatory Spending increases that began in the mid 1970's under Carter who added even MORE Mandatory spending. It is the Presidents FDR and LBJ who are responsible for most of the Mandatory spending that is increasing 5X that for discretionary spending and is what is going to cause a default. Three Democrat Presidents with Democrat Congresses are responsible for ALL of the Mandatory spending we see today. They are also responsible for the majority of our interest payments as this is the interest on money borrowed to pay for their mandatory spending.
