This is, of course, a ridiculous claim.

The "course that got us into the mess we are in" clearly started at two different points in time --

1) FDR's New Deal, which included SS and unemployment compensation, and far worse,

2) LBJ's Medicare and Medicaid, which have in the course of 45 or so years essentially bankrupted the country.

Anything Reagan may have done that injured our nation in some way pales by comparison with these two blunders -- the combined effects of which have left the country $100 Trillion in debt for political untouchable systematic expenditures, and left us with no real hope of digging out.

Liberalism of the 60s and the 30s set us on a course that literally could not have ended differently. It set incentive traps that will ultimately bring the country to its knees.
