Borland will not get bought out by Oracle

Apart from a reluctance to "never say never", I agree with you totally. The only reason I join in the sporadic outbreaks of takeover-itis is to point out that there is far more to company acquisition - any company acquisition - than technology "fit", whatever that may mean.

I believe, though, that Del resigned from the Oracle Board several months ago - correct me if I am wrong on this.

You will see the stock at 14 within 6-8 months

With your commitment to the stock, I hope you are right. My own view is that there is tremendous instability in the tools market as a whole - witness this thread's 'language wars' as a tiny example - and that Borland is only one of many trying to muscle in on this new space. Their strategy here is the critical factor, and my view is that the jury is still very much out on this topic.

The reference to Forte is interesting, too: "We're out to take share from them," says Del Yokum, Borland's CEO, "and we'll do it with a solution that's open, easier to use, and offers higher productivity and higher performance." Naming a target competitor is macho stuff, but can backfire badly. Apart from the user interface, where Borland scores well against Forte, what would be Borland's advantage? Forte has a very valuable two years of experience in this segment, while it is a completely new business venture for Borland.

Whatever, it will be an interesting ride.
