Cyrix is not the only company with the ability to integrate as many functions as possible on the microprocessor. This is certainly a good way to get a cheaper computer, but it means that you are stuck with whatever supporting functions (sound ,video, modem etc.) that you originally put on the chip. As better technology comes along you are stuck with the old supporting technology unless you redesign the entire microprocessor, not an easy or cheap chore. Also the increased complexity may lead to lower yields. Intel knows how to do this, but they have chosen a different path (so far.) I wouldn't be surprised to see them introduce one for the very low end market one day.
