Brumar gave you some excellent examples which you dismissed. When the Federal government can fire corporate executives and decide their pay, that is an indication that the federal government is controlling the businesses. But, you didn't really need examples to answer the question. There is a name for the economic policy where business is owned privately but controlled by the government. And it isn't "socialism". But we are fast moving in that direction. Another example would be Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. edit: I see that lindybill has been discussing the correct term for the economic policy that the U.S. seems to be steering toward. In spite of the connotation, it is the correct term.
