My sense of things is that this kind of capitulation is happening throughout the world of unionized employment.

Nothing new here. Tiered union contracts ala American Airlines who did this decades ago. They were realistic.

Fast forward to today's union. As in the case of Camden NJ (crime capital of the country). The mayor wanted wage reductions. The union said no. The result? A dramatic reduction in police and fire protection force. No capitulation on the union's part.

Net, net?
1. A constituency that will think twice before agreeing to another tax increase for the stonewalling police and fireman's unions.

And probably more important, going forward:

2. Voters who will turn a cold shoulder to the democrats inherent protectionism of unions. It's inevitable.
