I was rejecting the idea of control just for the sake of control, as in power hungry. But I'd rather just concede the point to you and move on. Splitting hairs over definitions isn't very productive, so I agree that Democrats believe society is better off when some behviors are modified, shaped, even controlled, and they are willing to achieve that end with legislation, i.e. government force. They will push the pendulum further on this than will Rs or Libertarians.
