I was there in the '70's and people were very nice to me. Not that I would count that as anything reflecting geopolitics. But still, they certainly didn't treat me badly because I was American.

I stopped traveling in the early 90's. Before that I filled up my passports several times. I never ran into any hatred of Americans. In most places they went out of their way to be friendly with Americans. Americans in general got more special treatment than citizens of any other country. Anyway that was my experience.
