#2 Borland is blowing it because they cannot keep the product in stock.

ISN showed a backordered/out of stock status for the $99 JBuilder version for a few weeks before it was released. My guess is that JBuilder C/S has not even shipped to ISN yet.

Sam: I think you read more into my comments than I had intended!

JBuilder C/S should be a big winner and my gut feeling is that it will be. Initial sales of JBuilder Pro. and Std. and Borland's comments about those products suggested that customers quickly embraced the product and that retailers sold out of their initial supply very quicly. No reason why we should not expect JBuilder C/S to meet or even exceed this kind of initial acceptance.

Unlike heavy manufacturing industries, it's relatively easy to ramp up the actual "production" of software CD's, books etc. So I do not think the fact that they cannot keep the product in stock (if true) has any significant implications. Also isn.com may merely be taking orders at this time in anticipation of future supplies. I'm not certain. But as mentioned earlier my gut feeling is that this product will be greeted with heavy market acceptance.

Re: upside sales surprise. Could always happen. Considering that JBuilder sales impacted last Q's sales only slightly because of the late introduction in the Q, this quarter the contribution by JBuilder sales to revenue should be very nice. But remember Dale Yocum's plea to not expect great things overnight - BORL's makeover should take another year at least. Right now it's best to keep accumulating these shares and keep the focus on selling the shares to 2-3 years in the future.
