MILPITAS, Calif., Nov. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- LSI Logic Corporation (NYSE: LSI), the leading developer of advanced DVD chips for the consumer electronics market, and Aureal Semiconductor Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: AURL) a leader in next generation audio technologies, announced today that LSI Logic has licensed Aureal's HRTF-based A3D Surround technology. This technology will enable LSI Logic's family of highly-integrated single-chip DVD decoders to offer the Dolby Digital five-speaker surround sound effect from just two speakers. Aureal's A3D Surround technology accepts decoded Dolby Digital (AC-3), Pro Logic, or MPEG audio. The patented HRTF (Head-Related Transfer Functions) technology was developed for NASA for use in their flight simulators. "The LSI DVD decoder can simultaneously run both Dolby Digital decoding and the Aureal A3D Surround algorithm, bringing dynamic, high-fidelity, multi-channel audio to two-speaker stereo systems found in mainstream personal computing and consumer platforms," said Isaac E. van Kempen, Director of DVD Products at LSI Logic. "With so many consumers using two-speaker audio systems, the need for Dolby Digital decoding combined with Aureal's A3D Surround is a perfect fit. "Aureal is pleased to be working with LSI Logic, a recognized leader in the DVD marketplace," said Brendan O'Flaherty, Vice President of Business Development at Aureal. "Any electronics equipment manufacturer using LSI Logic's DVD decoder will be able to incorporate A3D Surround functionality at minimal cost and effort."
