Company Press Release

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 13, 1997--Centura Software Corp. (NASDAQ:CNTR - news) today announced that it will refocus its corporate strategy to concentrate its core business in the market for embedded databases and development tools and will no longer distribute ForeSite, a Web middleware product.

Sam Inman, chairman and CEO said, ''At this time, there is increased demand for the core products Centura offers, operating in either Web or client/server computing environments. Since we were unable to consummate the purchase of InfoSpinner, it has become increasingly clear that our best use of resources is to concentrate on products we own rather than on being a distributor of products that are complementary.''

''It has become evident that our investment in ForeSite would take longer to pay back than we had originally planned. We have also found some of our customers prefer existing Centura products to those offering similar functionality to ForeSite,'' said Mike Moore, VP of Worldwide Sales for Centura. ''With the new release of SQLBase 7.0, Centura products provide a total suite of products for OEMs that operate in the client/server and Web computing environments.

''We believe it is in the best interests of our shareholders and customers to continue to invest our resources in our core competencies -- embedded databases and development tools. In fact, our embedded databases, suite of tools and services continue to account for over 98% of Centura's revenues.'' Centura recently reported Q3 revenues of $13.7 million and a profit after tax of $563,000.

Centura, formerly known as Gupta, pioneered the market for embedded databases in a client/server environment. The company looks forward to continuing to offer competitive products and extending its database and suite of tools from client/server to the Web and information appliances markets.

>>> Veiko and Leo I find that the postings of both of you to be invaluable to this thread. A point/counterpoint situation is a healthy situation as we go thru these uncertainties. <<<

Points and counterpoints are fine, max90. It is the false assertions that Veiko has made repeatedly to Centura Online and this forum that I have a real problem with. I have never E-mailed him or anyone telling him to dump CNTR. That is a lie. At this point in time I no longer care whether even after knowing the truth Veiko still prefers to believe Centura blindly (ie. Tomahawk) as long as he stops making false accussations against me. Is that too much to ask ?
