Makes no sense to me at all, given they do not have the first mover advantage - the iPad does, by over a year, and it's about to be upgraded to iPad 2, maybe as early as next week.

I was talking about fleecing the early adopters among Android die hards (I assume they exist, right?!). Right now, Motorola has a differentiated product as the only Honeycomb tablet. Give it a few months, and the prices of Honeycomb tablets will approach the cost of production, as happens for all commodities.

I estimate that the 3G/32GB iPad, which is actually priced pretty aggressively, costs Apple $475 to make. Without the benefit of scale, Motorola's COGS for Xoom is probably $500 (plus an additional $10 for each Xoom sold for their share of that SuperBowl ad :) ). Anyway, when all is said and done, I'd guess that the Xoom and similar clones will come in at $650. At that point, they will be better able to compete with the iPad.
