2/18/11 Contest Update Stocks continued to scale the pyramid of worry this week but small cap biotechs found the bricks slippery. At Friday’s close, the Nasdaq Biotech Index was up 2.21% YTD (vs. up .87% YTD a week ago) and the Contest median was up .03% YTD (vs. up 1.09% YTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 6.83% YTD (vs. up 5.90% YTD a week ago). Reflecting the underperformance of baby biotechs, the portfolios of Contest leaders lost ground. GENE’s portfolio (up 23.60% YTD, but down about 5% for the week) remained in first place followed by RKRW’s portfolio (up 18.33% YTD) and RRGE’s portfolio (up 13.63% YTD). At Friday's close, 19 of the 38 Contest portfolios were in the black with just 14 of the 38 beating the NBI. Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks ranked by % Gained and % Lost for the week (foreign stock prices are not converted to US$ in these two tables). Portfolio adjustments: None.
