It is refreshing to have a discussion with someone who makes good, salient points such as you. You have defended your position well by using logic and reason.

I strongly agree with you on the point that the government is untrustworthy and would only look out for its interests.

My position on the consumption tax exists because I desire a much smaller government that would not have a need to grow its revenue, and would neither encourage nor discourage work, creativity, and consumption. It would simply exist as an impartial body to mediate disputes and it would "promote the general welfare" on a much smaller scale with a much smaller footprint on all of our lives.

The fraud, waste, and abuse perpetrated by the federal, state, and local governments is beyond belief.

I do agree that the flat tax is far more preferable to the current income tax structure, but given a choice, please tax my purchases, not my labor.

Not taxing my labor equates to the potential for bigger and better purchases later if I exercise patience. I like the idea of that! :-)
