This mindset (not yours) puzzles me. I once sat through a divorce hearing where the issue was support and maintenance. The gentlemen, a small biz owner, whose wife was seeking the support testified at length about his income as did his accountant who put on the company financials, tax returns, etc....to show that the amount his wife wanted would not be supported by the income the guy was able to derive from business unless he lived in his car. No countervailing evidence was produced by the wife. The Judge ruled from the bench at the conclusion of the hearing stating that he knew all small business men lied about their income and granted the wife's request. Totally disregarded the evidence and went with the same sort of mindset you see on display here.

Are you saying I'm not truthful? Why would you say that?

I guess I'll answer your question with another set of questions, in order to clarify what I said.

Have you, as a businessperson, never taken advantage of your enterprise? IOW, have you never signed a restaurant check for you and yours, using a client as the reason for going to that upscale eatery?

Have you ever made a purchase, knowing that the company, shouldn't have paid for it, but you knew that you could (in a stretch) justify the cost?

Have you ever furnished your office with art, knowing that it would wind up in your home later on?

Have you ever bought a more expensive car, knowing that the Chevy would get you there just as well?

And the list goes on and on and on.

No, I'm not saying you're not truthful.

What I am saying, is that, many of those who aren't admitting that fact that they take advantage of their own business, use the "WINK, WINK, it's a business expense", method of accounting.

I don't.
