Ok, I have the subsidy on grains figured out.

We do too. Abolish the Ag Dept.

I spent a lot of time in the field in Upstate New York. Most of the woods I investigated had at one time been farm fields, and many had stone fences running along the edge of the old fields.

Many of the fields that were just starting to grow up in trees and were mainly grass and weeds, were part of Eisenhower's Land Bank system which was designed to pull land out of production to keep ag prices high. I guess you would call it a subsidy. Many of those old farms were bought up by city people who used them as weekend retreats.
