Well, Ted, there IS a massive budget shortfall, and employees ARE going to be laid off and fired. States can't run deficits, and Wisconsin's current public labor force was installed in rosier times.

I'd like to see the governor meet WITH the unions, managers and employees, and negotiate just HOW they are going to get there - including raising taxes and fees on those that can afford them, where they won't hurt Wisconsin business.

Once everyone realizes that there's a LOT of pain, and it needs to be spread around, progress can be made.

I'm not sure the TP governor can get there.

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker warned Tuesday that state employees could start receiving layoff notices as early as next week if a bill eliminating most collective bargaining rights isn't passed soon.

"Collective bargaining" is another term for "legalized extortion". Particularly when you're talking about government employees.
