There are those who get outraged that the gov't would even consider seizing their IRA accounts or somehow meddling with same yet think it's just fine that someone who had paid a couple hundred thousand in SS taxes gets his SS benefit stolen.

Maybe we should call IRA's "entitlements' and see how the argument changes...

>>Actually words do matter. That's why Newspeak was invented.<<

that's straw man logical fallacy. i never said words don't matter.

as for this one case, the point is that government and society is broke and the SS money is GONE.

in addition, the COURT has ruled SS an "entitlement."

that's a court ruling. THAT'S THE LAW.

BTW, i don't support this BS. i despise the criminals that robbed society and who are h*ll bent on robbing society blind.

>>SS payments should be treated as government debt, much like Treasury bills.<<

they are - in a way.

oftwominds.com

government debt that can be eliminated any time the BIG Capital enforcement arm of BIG Capital decides to do so.

>>By calling it an entitlement, it looks inviting to the Republican axe wielders.<<

the courts called it an "entitlement." it's the law.

as far as "cutting it," IT'S ALREADY BEEN STOLEN!

now the people who sat on their *ss while it was stolen and DID NOTHING, want to force their children, grand children and great grand childtren, etc... to borrow it and pay interest to... the BIG Capital cabal THAT WAS ALLOWED TO STEAL IT IN THE FIRST PLACE.

the criminals who stole the wealth are greedy b*stards, but the boomer generation was greedy and selfish, too. lazy and apathetic to go along with it. not that this is just their issue - it seems to be a general human trait until society is pushed into a corner.

society, welcome to the corner.

>>I understand the realities in that SS payment surpluses" were never "invested", but transferred to the general fund and spent even before they accrued.<<

that's an awful nice way of saying "looted by BIG Capital in order to further their agenda against the American people."

let me make a couple points here to clarify some issues for you...

1. those who take your right HATE YOUR RIGHTS. DESPISE YOUR RIGHTS. who is taking your rights from you?

2. The Art of War tells us three things (i'm 40% through the book). 1. war is all about deception. is someone deceiving you? 2. the best warriors never have to strike a blow (see #1) 3. if you ever have to fight a war, end it quickly or you will bankrupt the nation. can you figure out the corollary? give it a minute - we all need to develop our critical thinking abilities... see below if you couldn't get it...

corollary - one of the prime objectives of anyone who sells a never ending war (on terror, for example), HAS AN EXPRESS GOAL OF BANKRUPTING THE NATION.

there is a war going on against you - and you seem to not even realize it.

what will it take?

SS doesn't meet the definition of an entitlement anyways. One has to qualify by paying into the program. Medicaid may be the only one where one qualifies regardless. Welfare in the form of Medicaid, food stamps, aid to families with dependent children, and unemployment insurance are what have ballooned in the last two years by as much as 300 billion dollars/yr.
