When I boot my system I momentarily see both drives that are identical as I understand they should be. Of course I boot to the c drive and as noted can not access the Raid drive. Also installed is: Intel RAID Controller Intel(R) ICH8R/ICH9R SATA which as I understand it is a software solution with full management and status reporting of the RAID array.

The controller doesn't kick in often, but several months ago I was having mouse freeze issues. Whenever the mouse froze, once or twice a week, the Intel Raid controller would automatically start and copy the Raid disk back to the C disk during which time the computer slowed. Eventually Dell support determined a faulty mobo and replaced it NBD. I thought it was quite amazing that Dell support could determine from a few conversations that a mouse freeze was tied to the mobo. Haven't had a problem since.

BTW, the MS Certified tech who replaced the mobo recommended against breaking the Raid configuration as he couldn't guaranty drive integrity.
