The question is that can Ancor's switch provide a direct connection without complicating the situation like what Brocade is trying to do? Why can't Ancor provide a comparison demo? If Brocade's two pieces is working as good as Ancor's one piece, why didn't Sun just use it. What I can see is FC is going to be popular very soon. Can Ancor sell? Why Ancor keeps evrything so secret? Doesn't Ancor want to sell switches to everyone in the world? Too many ???.....

George, from Ancor's website:

<<<<Two-for-one demo:

Going to COMDEX? Don't' miss Ancor's new GigWorks MK II switch in the FCLC
(Fibre Channel Loop Community) room, N250. Ancor's new product will bridge the
SCSI and IP worlds with simultaneous video and direct-attached storage interoperability
demonstrations:

On the storage side, the switch will connect a Sun server and Jaycor adapter to a Unisys OSM public
loop of Seagate Cheetah disks. The system will move high-speed fluid motion dynamic simulation data
at over 40 megabytes per second using connectionless Class 3 service.

The networking application is a four-way video teleconference using standard PCs. The demonstration
highlights Fibre Channel LAN bandwidth as the MK II directs three streams of full-motion
uncompressed video over a Class 1 connection at 55 megabytes per second.>>>>

Sun and Ancor will also demo their connections plus more. I think you hit it on the head right there. Brocade's FL_ports is not new. It allows for the connections of hubs to provide FC_AL support. Ancor had them with the old switch I believe. But, the performance of a configuration like this is inferior to the MKII's where FC_AL support is right on the switch. It is my understanding that SUN made that a requirement. Brocade does make it sound good.
