3/11/11 Contest Update A massive earthquake and tsunami in Japan, continuing chaos in Libya, a subdued “Day of Rage” in Saudi Arabia and Massachusetts Secretary of the Commonwealth, William Galvin, is enraged by the stock-picking skills of our champ, RKRW. Still, stocks managed to rally Friday, although the gain wasn’t enough to put the indexes in the black for the week. At Friday’s close, the Nasdaq Biotech Index was up 2.56% YTD (vs. up 2.96% YTD a week ago) and the Contest median was down -2.58% YTD (vs. down -.10% YTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 2.36% YTD (vs. up 4.97% YTD a week ago). MCBIO’s portfolio (up 18.59% YTD) took back first place with RKRW’s portfolio (up 12.13% YTD) moving into second place. GENE’s portfolio (up 10.71% YTD) had a rough week and fell to the No. 3 spot. At Friday's close, 14 of the 38 Contest portfolios were in the black with just 8 of the 38 beating the NBI. Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks ranked by % Gained and % Lost for the week (foreign stock prices are not converted to US$ in these two tables).
