Steve--- I am REAL long in this one too. Went longer today under 30. It is extremely possible we will see the recent lows of the end of Oct again this month. It was time to buy under 30 and there seems tremendous support at 25, so if it drops to that level I will be very pleased to buy again. Much better for most peoples blood pressure if the entire sector goes up a level or three and forms a new base in the next week or two..... look out for all Fridays. JOHN

Scenario.......stock sits at 35 on anouncement day......would you sell your Novs. or wait for the news AND expiration on Friday? Big risk......I know you're thinking about it. Me too, I'm long the 30's as well.

Steve, I'm in the same boat- margined to the hilt. And most of that was not at the bottom but on the way down. I'm down about 50K in three weeks but as a % of my portfolio I am really hurting. BK

Sounds like you are setting yourself up for big time hurt if AMAT goes to 25 and stays there through January. Let's hope for you and my very much smaller long position that it goes the other way. I'm long in my IRA and have limit order for Jan 00 LEAPS outside IRA. While 1998 may have some uncertainty I expect that by 2000 AMAT will be much higher. Need for chips is going to continue to grow, not go away. I'm in for the long term. William
