Walt, it's jsut a guess but it is possible that someone had a lot
of stock and was waiting for an exit point. Good news appears.
If they wnt to unload this may be the best they can get for awhile.
Maybe there is more news coming. If so, the sellers don't know
what it is or if it is n ot good, then they know what it is.
The big problem is the time frame. As I said earlier, we're looking
at half of Nov., all of Dec., then 3 weeks of Jan. before they can
get on the ice. Unless, of course, you zip up on your skidoo and
start drilling holes in the ice to flood it and make it thicken
faster. We're looking at 9 weeks where not much can happen. Even
if you do flood the ice, there are no winter roads so there's not
going to be any equipment heading north for some time. What do you
hear around Yellowknife. When's the winter road likely to be open?
No news means that small trades can drive the price lower. No chance
to unload three quarter of a million shares without driving the
stock to nothing. It'll be interesting to see if an insider has
been dumping stock. Too bad there's such a long wait. The rule needs
to be changed so stockholders know within 24 hours. Remember that
somewaht over a year ago, this stock was trading around fifty
cents. Even at 70-80 someone may be making a profit.

Evening Walt, Here's a theory that might explain your concern and it answers all of your questions.

Their could be going on what's known as "Looping" of the stock. What that is let's say that a group of investors/shorters (working) as a team buys first thing in the morning 100,000 shares. The price of course moves up by let's say a dime (as they take all bids in a hurry). Than all of the 100,000 shares are put up for sale with an additional 100,000 short shares. The flow is overturned and these guys cover up in days to come. The short position that's out there is banking on the fact that if WSP annoc. J.V. in let's say Botswana, That the market will react unfavorably to this news (thinking that Snap Lake is being abandoned). Their is also some tax time selloffs still to come and usually Nov., Dec. are weak months for Spec. Stocks.

Walt this is just an opinion and a theory....If anyone else wants to shed some light please do so.

The Fix

Dear Walt, For months now I have wondered the same thing. It sounds like you are in need of a good "conspiracy" theory. Well here goes: :-)

1) Company is issuing paper on demand. ie printing up gobs of shares. It has been my feeling as of late that Winspear trades like it is dragging around 300 million shares.

2) Lucas is dipping into the "cookie jar" again.

3) Loads of "uncovered" shorts that are not being reported.

Reasons might include any, or all of the above.

More likely the reason might be this sick market. Its like the Titanic sinking, all other ships near by are pulled down by the draft. After the Bre-X and others debacle, this market is in sore need of a positive gold market. Central banks certainly are'nt helping.

Anyway keep your chin up, gold still has luster.
