You group large categories together, label them as good or bad, and cheer the broad categories you like, while bashing the others. I don't really think that way so much. Corporations are not some undifferentiated lump. Each one is different then the next. The actions of Transocean, whether they where totally reckless in a way that should cause them to be considered morally liable and possibly legally and financially liable, or whether it was just a matter of error, don't reflect generally on other corporations. Damn! Why do you not see it?! Its not that they screwed up; that through their negligence, a platform blew up and people died. Its that a few months later they gloss over the event as if it was a minor scrape and then award themselves SAFETY bonuses. Its an outrage! Its such typical corporate behavior, which I believe stems from the excesses of capitalism that grip this nation. They rewrite their history and everyone, including you, suddenly suffers from a faux amnesia. Then a few years down the road, another disaster occurs and everyone acts all surprised. That you can post to me with an air of indifference, defending such behavior as if its aberrant and fairly rare is nothing short of shocking. In fact corp. malfeasance happens....maybe not as diastrously.......but with a frequency that should be appalling to you. Corporations rip off people all the time. That is, in part, what the subprime debacle was all about......corp. taking advantage of the unsuspecting; cheating when they can get away with it; despoiling the countryside when they think no one is watching; worshiping at the altar of the almighty dollar. This country has had a long history of corp. misbehavior that leads to disaster and/or financial harm. Are they all bad? No. Some corps. try to be good citizens but they are rare and far between. Way too often corps. by their very nature seem to bring out the worst in people. They need to be monitored constantly. The same goes for Tepco, although in this case I can't really see why your bashing them, perhaps because the earthquake and tsunami are both impersonal forces of nature, so they might not be satisfying targets for your anger. Wow! Just wow! You are amazing. If that's what you can say about Tepco after all the screwups they have made before and since the quake and all the indifference they have shown running a nuclear reactor, then you are more far gone then I thought. Don't get back to me until you learn more about those mistakes and missteps. And then, if you still feel they need defending, please keep it to yourself. TIA.
