The companies making the chips already have plenty of capacity in place. Why do you think INTC and MU, etc. put their new fabs on the back burner?
Just as you don't run out and buy a new computer everytime INTC comes out with an upgrade, these companies do not have to update their equipment everytime something new comes out.
When I managed a fab. for Nat Semi. we had salesmen calling everyday trying to sell us new equipment. We always asked the same thing; "What does it buy us." Usually the answer was; "Nothing."
Back to AMAT, I think that they will meet their numbers this quarter, due to the fact that the receipts for the period were in the pipeline before the Asian fiasco was known about. But I think that they may predict lower future earnings due to slowing of orders.
IMHO.
