And yes, the government could just get medieval on your asses, and seize all the gold and silver, force you to take the value of the dollar at whatever they say it should be. They could also seize all the farm land, all the means of production...

Translation: The government can do anything it wants to do to you.

In the unlikely case that there'd be a flight to quality, whereby, a large amount of the USD now parked outside the US would return, there is not way the financial system could deal with it.

For these counterflows would amount to all QE that has been sucked in by emerging markets.

Great link, thanks. I suspect the "exogenous" forces will in the end be the dominant forces. The US is more at the mercy of others than perhaps any other time in its history.
