"Poverty measurement is based on the broadest income definition that still preserves comparability across nations. The best current definition is disposable cash and near cash income (DPI) which includes all types of money income, minus direct income
and payroll taxes and including all cash and near cash transfers, such as food stamps and cash housing allowances, and refundable tax credits such as the earned income tax credit (EITC).2,3 We use this income definition in the analyses which follow."

Why no consideration given to objectively measuring standards of living? Isn't that ULTIMATELY what sets you in The Mansion apart from poor kids in Camden, NJ?

Al, that's exactly what I suspected. In that report, poverty is measured in relative terms:

> Percent of ALL Persons with Disposable Income Less than 50 percent of Adjusted National Disposable Median Income

One way to "reduce" those numbers is by reducing the median income. And that's not hard at all. Just increase taxes on the middle class. Which is what most countries in Europe do anyway.

McCain and Boehner...the frigging bobbsy twin idiots. Neither have met a war they didn't like. Pushing for more US involvement while complaining about the deficit.

McCain pushes heavier U.S. involvement in Libya
