McCain is running around calling the rebels "his heroes"

How's come I find myself rolling my eyes whenever I read something from McCain?

We are up a creek without a paddle, without anyone in the boat asking where the paddle is, and heading downstream fast. We're screwed.

McCain is running around calling the rebels "his heroes".

But Mr. McCain, an Arizona Republican, thanked the White House for ordering earlier airstrikes in support of the rebels, whom he called “patriots.” Earlier, as he left his hotel, he referred to the rebels as his heroes, according to The Associated Press.

the world is taking on the characteristics of the internet. How many times have we been in an online forum (such as SI) and stuck our noses in a dispute where we didn't really know either side well enough to make an informed decision about who is right and who is wrong? I know that I have done it (though I think I have learned my lesson).

So now we have backed the Libyan rebels against Q-Daffy and we are finding out that these guys don't have the same values as we do. Hell, even if you are going to execute a prisoner, the desire to do it in public by hanging the guy upside down and hacking off his head, shows that their values are a bit different.

Like in internet chatrooms and message boards, most of the times it is best to not make commitment to one side or the other, especially where we don't have any skin in the game.

And it seems that most of the time in real world disputes, neither side are the "good guys". And backing one side over the other can come back to bite us in our collective asses.

I have always assumed elected officials know as much or more about issues than the average American citizen, so if I'm right, why in the world would McCain support the rebels who are committing murder?
