RR, @200 is the suggested retail for an external; the internal price will be closer to $75.

Rocky, people nowadays have alot of disposable income and like to buy all the new toys; digital cameras, the upcoming Clik etc. I'm not at all worried about the market. You can't stop progress. New widgets are being developed every day to replace the old ones probably faster than they can be absorbed. Don't forget we're in the computer or high tech revolution, and it's not about to stop even though you still love your cheapy deepy camera. SR

>>Saying that 8 million cameras will be sold is one thing. Anyone can pull numbers out of a hat. We won't know for sure until we're there, but don't be suprised of the fact that a $200 premium is enough to turn a whole lot of people off of buying a similar model camera WITHOUT Clique on board. Besides, for $200, Flash cards will be direct competition.<<

Rocky -

So now you're back to saying that there will be no real market for Clik!

I'm confused. I thought you said SyQuest and/or Fuji were going to develop a competing product. Again, why are they going to do that if there's no market?

Not to mention this weirdly obtuse comment about flash cards. Sure, even today, I can get a flash card for 200 bucks. For about 8 MB worth of storage. Let's say that by the time Clik ships, flash is down to 16 or even 32MB for 200 bucks. How does that compete with Clik on price? With click, the drive (external) may be 200 dollars, but additional 40MB disks are only 10 dollars each.

Since it seems as though you are unwilling to do the real math, here's an example for you. This example assumes that 32MB flash cards cost 200 dollars by the time Clik! ships.

1 Flash Card = 32MB = $200

1 Clik! drive (comes with 1 disk) = 40MB = $200

5 Flash Cards = 160MB = $1,000

1 Clik! drive plus 4 additional disks = 200MB = $240

Does this seem like direct competition?

>> Anyone can pull numbers out of a hat. <<

True enough.

Given the miserable track record of your *predictions*, I strongly suspect youv'e been sitting on your hat when you pulled your numbers from it.

Last winter Rocky posted and posted about the inevitablility of single digit prices in the near term -- instead we have nearly doubled from where he said to bail ( I loaded-up).

He wa also going on ad naseum about how DVD was the Zip killer and words to the effect that it was so sexy he wouldn't be surprised if it wiped out Zip by THIS Christmas.

Now, we get his half baked analysis about new products as if his back of the envlope figures can determine the market better than the management/research team that has grown IOM from a 98 lb. weakling to an in your face industry giant in a bit over two years.

Rocky, your clueless, always have been. . . .

I'm off to the big ski swap so won't be here to jump on your next nonsense post until tonight. But, I will be back.

Rocky, YES, "ANYONE CAN PULL NUMBERS OUT OF A HAT" but not ME!!!! As a Physician when I make a statement with projected no's I feel that the least I can do is to have a reference to back it up. Here it is and please read the article from MacWeek. www8.zdnet.com Briefly it states that 3 million digital cameras will be sold in 1997 and the buying trend will expand to 9 million digital cameras sold per year by 2001. I've read other articles with higher predictions but being conservative by nature I'm quoting the lower report. If YOU make any predictions I'd like you to quote a source too. Conservatively yours... You miss the point entirely regarding clik! (big surprise)

Clik! is to be a family of storage devices. Including an external drive that can be purchased once and used with any devices which are click!-enabled.

You buy the drive once - get it? - and you purchase clik!- enabled devices.

Being able to attach the same storage device to many digital appliances is what is going to make clik! irresistable. The overall economics across multiple devices will be compelling.

PS> before anyone jumps on me : yes, I know that some devices may have the entire Clik! drive built into them. Wanna bet we see a bunch of ultra lite portables with Clik! instead of floppies?
