There's probably another 500 GB waiting to be formatted.

To check:

Control Panel
Administrative Tools
Computer Management
Disk Management

I think on some imaging programs, you have to tell it to use all of the new drive, otherwise, it took your 500gb image and put it on the new drive the exact same 500gb size, leaving 500gb as unformatted and unavailable until you prep it.

And merging partitions isn't easy.

Restore it again, see if you have any settings about it adjusting to the size of the new drive.

Click the Start Orb and in the search box, type DISKMGMT.MSC

Hold down both the Ctrl key and the Shift key and press Enter

In the Disk Management Window, find your drive, in the lower half of the window. It should be shown in two pieces, a "Disk" box on the left and a "Volumes" rectangle on the right. Expect to see "Healthy (and a list of stuff)"

Right-click in the rectangle and select "Extend Volume," then Windows will open a Wizard to guide you through.

You may be asked to re-boot. If not, re-boot anyway.

Cheers, PW.

P.S. Many believe it's wise to divide a huge disk into partitions. If you wish to do this, the process is similar.

Right-click the place indicating free space and select "Create Simple Volume. . ." A Wizard will guide you through.
