RE: I believe they can fully enforce their unique rights to their own Trade Secrets - independent of patent law. Depending on the technical merit of the features, such action may bring careful examination by the justice department. The advantages of the new slot is viewed by some as suspect, their strongest merit being that they can be used to keep competition out (I am unqualified to make that judgement). Ironically, this move by Intel to a proprietary slot is not unlike the moves made by Apple you recently commented on.
