Using the tactic Tim is using is very common among the RWer's....ie the Dem's were always the racist party... So you're hit the nail on the head. The 64 Civil Rights Act caused a sea change...and the fact that the south is now mostly Republican proves that the region is still largely racist...

And the Republicans have been pandering to them ever since.

False, or at least mostly false. Both parties have examples of such pandering (the Democrats much more than the Republicans, counting the whole history of both parties, but relatively insignificant amounts of pandering to anti-black racist in recent years.

Meanwhile the support of official racial discrimination from the government (far more odious than private discrimination) in recent decades has mostly been from the left. As has the support of discrimination by large private institutions as a matter of policy.

"Historically the anti-black racists congregated in the Democratic party."

Not since the 1960s, Tim. The Civil Rights Act changed things. Nixon's Southern Strategy welcomed them to the Republican Party with open arms.

I can not tell you how many times wingers have brought up this issue to defend examples of Republican racism in 2011. First, its not 1960......its 50 years later. Secondly, the Rs who have been caught weren't even trying to hide their racist beliefs. I mean who emails racist pics of the president and first lady and not expect to get caught. I think they want the president to know their views on his race.

It boggles the mind......its 2011 folks!
