Yeah. Because the government has caused so many people to disappear because of it...

Governments have done so.

Also racial violence goes beyond racial discrimination.

Obviously government racial quotas are not as bad as a campaign of terrorism and murder by some private racist actor. Some state university discriminating against Asian students isn't as bad as the activities of the KKK at its height. Racial discrimination of the same sort and to the same extent, is worse, in some ways much worse, than the same racial discrimination by private actors. Its much worse if the government imposes hiring quotas by race then if a private actor does. Its also worse if the government murders people because of their race then if a private actor does.

Oh, right. The Cato Institure. The Koch-funded group

Nice use of ad hominem.

"But there is no need for each institution to be diverse."

Sure there is.

No there isn't.

Otherwise the students don't get exposed to a wide variety of opinions and people.

Diversity of race is no the same as diversity of ideas. For universities the later is more important. As for diverse experience with people of difference races, ethnicity, religions etc. that's useful, but not a necessity, if you can have it without causing other harm then great, but if you have to actively discriminate by race to get it, it can be a net negative. Also it doesn't have to come from school. And if you have diversity across institutions, students who want a highly diverse student body will go to schools that have them.

Also there will be diversity by race at most large universities even if you don't have racial quotas or other forms of racial discrimination. You won't have diversity in every program or major, but in the university as a whole some degree of diversity would be the norm, even if the racial makeup of the school doesn't reflect that of the country as a whole, or the state or locality the university is located in.

Getting back to the original discussion, even if desire for diversity is the reason the discrimination, and not racial hatred, and even if one accepts racial diversity within each institution as something good, you still have racial discrimination mostly coming from the left today. Your not denying it as much as your saying its a good thing.
