This is key to what you don't get.

When you speak of unfunded liabilities, by definition you are talking about what IS, not what WILL BE.

if the unfunded liabilities are not funded now, it is not possible to fund them later because instead of trillions our children will be looking at quadrillions.

Unfunded liabilities are amounts that are required TODAY, not years from now.

By any reasonable measure there is no surplus in either ss or mc. Explaining this to people who don't understand the basics of accounting, let alone the arithmetic of annuities, is just not possible. And I don't know of many liberals who do understand this.
