It is pretty lame.

Talked to my hackintosh guru about Lion.

Ain't excited.

Maybe version 2.x or so, I should get back in touch, he said...

"I think Lion looks great. Lots of useful new features. Things that will actually make using a computer easier."

Past experience has shown me that making such assumptions too early may be imprudent. I have a 2.2GHz MBP. I can't wait to see how much better it will run with Lion or whether Apple has pulled another iOS4 on iPhone 3G job. I can't afford to buy new hardware every time Apple releases a new bloatware. Let's hope Lion lives up to its name otherwise it'll become a Hog.

And iCloud will provide the glue that syncs everything up between devices, simply and easily.

Better than "simply and easily", automatically. That's key to me. That makes life simpler and easier, without having to do anything.

I like it.

I like that iOS5 Safari will have tabbed browsing, I usually have several Safari windows open and the current way of managing them with iOS4 on iPad is definitely less efficient than using a tabbed browser on a computer.

What about security of the photos etc that go to the iCloud, does everything get encrypted/decrypted by the user device?

Looking forward to watching a video of the keynote later.

> bullshit from other quarters about how lame all of this stuff is

Message 27414709

Apple, I feel, will zip up their expanding ecosystem with the new OSs and the cloud and the new phone soon. I EXPECT as per usual confusion will reign after the conference as people try to sort out Apple's strategy.

Apple as per usual will have thought out the cloud and will offer only what they think is prudent, entirely useful and they will implement it better than anyone else.

The nay sayers will complain that all sorts of useless, poorly implemented stuff is available from an "open" cloud elsewhere and that Apple is doomed.

Message 27415844

It may be more interesting what they leave out. Or their implementation may seem lukewarm.

I'm always amazed when Apple releases new stuff that looks BANAL on the surface, on closer examination it becomes more interesting.

Really I think there is so much to absorb. I think the way they implemented the cloud is right on. Syncing documents automatically on every device. It certainly is a new way of thinking.

And I think people are misunderstanding "Spaces." Full screen apps are a big departure for Apple. I'm not sure I like the idea, and I don't like the way Spaces is currently implemented but, if I understand it, I think they may have solved the problem of how it should be implemented.

I also thing that rebooting and having everything exactly like you had it before is going to be a great time saver. Not having to save and close everything then start your apps and open files again etc.

There is going to be quite a bit to absorb, and they have only touched on it. Frankly its almost too much for me to understand already.

Allen,

You are right. The market doesn't get it.

If things work as advertised, what was announced yesterday is an awesome upgrade to the mac/phone/touch/ipad operating systems.

Pricing is awesome as well, especially for Lion. I don't know if I heard it correctly but it sounded like if your machines are all together on one account, you might be able to upgrade all your machines for the price of 1 download.

Kurthend picked up on the 25 million iPads over 14 months which I think takes them through May so sales there are still going along very well with 1 more month of sales to go in the quarter.

I think we are getting closer to the convergence of the different operating systems that Apple has. It will decrease the learning curve for some. The big thing that I think I am seeing here is that with the integration of the different devices wirelessly, it will probably drive more people to buy Apple products.

If it all just works like they say which it appeared to do from the demos.

Now maybe they didn't announce everything that the rumor sites wanted, but I find what was announced pretty compelling. And if I have to upgrade things to make it all work, I will definitely look into this.

From the price action of Apple stock today, it seems that investors were not impressed because there isn't a new device to sell but I think what was announced yesterday will cause Apple to sell many new devices. One other thing that I saw that I have not seen mentioned is the PC free set up and running of these iDevices. I wonder how popular these will be and will people/families be using iDevices as their sole computing device?

Nice time to be an Apple shareholder, IMO. Good luck out there.
