Courtney,

I am sorry to learn that your father has Parkinson's. My grandmother had it, also (although that was many, many years ago.) It is a terrible, debilitating disease, but - luckily - one which progresses rather slowly.

Currently, I know that Guilford Pharmaceuticals (GLFD) is getting ready to bring to the clinic (with the help of AMGN) a class of neuroprotective / neurotropic compounds called neuroimunophilin ligands. Parkinson's Disease is one of many potential indications for this promissing technology. Unfortunately, they are only just getting ready to begin the (all too long) clinical process. Vertex Pharma (VRTX,) I understand, has very similar technology, also.

Good luck,
RB

P.S. You may want to consult the "VD's Model Portfolio" thread, as well:

exchange2000.com

There are some folks on that thread (as with this one) who really know their stuff. Good luck, once again.

Sorry to hear about your dad. My dad had Parkinson's too.

The long term readers of the Ligand thread are familiar with Henry's relationship with Ligand as the question has been asked many times before. Here is a post where Henry describes his relationship.

techstocks.com

Henry does a lot of posting. I wish some of the other threads I follow had someone as diligent as Henry. I think he believes the Internet is his classroom. He sure can reach a lot of people this way. His intentions are good. He probably wants to see Ligand go up. Wouldn't you if you started the company? He probably has a LOT of stock too. He is on the optimistic side so you have to consider that when you make investment decisions.

I just read the Bash thread. Several months of posting and it only took 20 minutes to read the entire thread. I hit the next button on some of Henry's posts and some others because I didn't want to read them. I do that on this thread too but I wouldn't want him to slow down. Some of the readers understand what he is talking about and I am sure it is of value to them. It gives me comfort knowing there is so much to talk about in Ligand. I never want to get involved with another single item stock. I got burnt badly with Somatagen when ELY backed out. All they had was their prospect for artifical blood.

I am sure you have come to the right place to find information on Parkinson's.

Regards

Courtney: Medtronic(MDY) has a surgically inserted device for treating Parkinson's tremor that was FDA approved around August 5, 1997. I think the NYTimes had an article on it around that time. I also remember an article late spring/early summer in Scientific American about it. Here's a skimpy news item link on the FDA approval:
biz.yahoo.com

As others have mentioned, Genzyme Tissue Repair(GENZL) and Guilford Pharmaceuticals(GLFD) have treatments in experimental stages. Both have threads on SI. Steve Push who is VP of Investor Relations at GENZL said this week on the GENZL thread that he would be posting an update on their Parkinson's treatment soon.

Good luck. If I come across anything else re: Parkinson's, I will post to you. Lisa

Well Courtney, I have resisted responding to you bizarre LGND posts for long enough. How is your father doing? I noticed that stan posted the reference to RXR involvement in Parkinson's disease as well as schizophrenia
Message 3420179
and was a bit surprised by your response. Did you not find the references helpful?
