How did they go in the Olympic chess, sprinting and basketball Arun? As I mentioned, it's a matter of quality, not quantity. Gold medals in badminton, water ballet and whatnot don't count. Even with 2 billion people in China, winning the chess will be a stretch and beating Usain Bolt would remain a no go.

Inventing things is not just a matter of numbers. I could spend forever trying to invent the theory of relativity and still get nowhere much. Having 5 billion of me wouldn't make the chances better. 10 billion of me, training hard all day every day, still would watch Usain Bolt from a distance from behind.

Apart from the raw material [the DNA] the cultural bias [repression and totalitarianism] is not "the right stuff". Teaching people for decades as they develop to be suppressed, inhibited, and restrained isn't the way to get them to cut loose and go for the sky.
