WLI is a weekly reading while the growth rate is a proprietary "averaging" of the past to smooth out the fluctuations. WLI should usually turn before its growth rate turns.

From what I can tell, some tech stocks are about as leading an indicator as any of ECRI's proprietary leading indicators. For example, some of mine bottomed before the economy and markets bottomed... for example, see LRCX:



LRCX and WLI growth both bottomed in late 2008.... WLI made a lower low in March 2009 while LRCX pulled back but was much higher and WLI growth flat lined... pretty good bottom confirmation and I added a pretty good amount of stocks at scarey low prices despite the fears of the day.
