Staff:

Ref: G. Kahn. Have you read Chamber's, "The Devil's Horsemen"? An accurate historical account but not a quick read.

Ciao, Ted

Hello Staff
A remarkable weekend of commentary - fascinating.
And they have greatly expanded my interests in these areas and intend to
look further into Gann and the third element of trading patterns. I am just
beginning to experiment with systems trading....although a stock trader
for some years now, my success has been barely worth the time...and I am
hoping my interests in this area will improve the trading profits.
.
There has been a hudge influx of books and material published in the last
5 years on Nostrodormus. He has received a lot of attention from some
of the "new age" esoteric authors. One particular lady has done 3 + books
on the subject...cannot remember her name...but can easily get it from
the local bookstore. Not all the new works are worth very much, but this
person is really interesting and has done some exceptional work in
decphering what remains of his work. I also believe some new Quatrians
have been discovered....anyway, I will dig it out her name for you this week.
.
Been reading Dr. Alexander Elder's book "Trading For A Living" and ran across
this interesting quote: - it's on page 23.
"Various opportunists sell "Gann courses" and "Gann software." They claim that
Gann was one of the best traders that ever lived, that he left a $50 million
estate and so on. I interviewed W.D.Gann's son, an analyst for a Boston bank.
He told me that his father could not support his family by trading but
earned his living by writing and selling instructional courses. When
W.D.Gann died in the 1950's, his estate, including his house, was valued at
slightly over $100,000. The legend of W.D.Gann, the giant of trading, is
perpetuated by those who sell courses and other paraphenalia to
gullible customers."
.
If this is true...and I have no reason to doubt Dr Elder's statement...I
would suspect that Gann may have been a theortician more interested in
discovery then actually practicing his techniques. Perhaps he had the ever
persistant problem "of pulling the trigger" that so many practicing traders
often have. The 2 types of brains do not often go together....as a teacher
Gann must have been very exciting.
.
Are there any of his students and practitioners that are today successfully
following his work...? If so are there any systems you recomend for a beginner
Although I've been in the markets for many years systems trading is a new interest.
Again, Thank you for your fascinating insights into trading.
Continued Good Luck,
Chip
