I went back reading about Stonewall and about NY laws at that time. As frustrating as it can be at times, it was a good reminder of how bad things were and how far we've come.

What gets me is how long it takes to get to a place of freedom. When you look at women suffrage, abolition and the freeing of the slaves, the development of civil rights, gay pride starting with Stonewall, et al, it took decades to get to a place of real equality even though the laws say that everyone is equal. And gays are really still at the beginning.......six states in 50 recognize that gays can marry........6 out of 50...12%. And those are the easy states. We have a liberal president who has to pick his words carefully when discussing the subject because he knows there are many in this country who still harbor a great deal of hatred towards gays.

I grew up with gay pride, feminism, black pride et al. So I can't help wondering why we are still discussing these issues. What's holding us up? Can't we just move along?

It makes me very tired.

A couple of questions:

How do you feel about abortion? Do you think it should be legal?

How do you feel when you see a woman wearing a burka in the US? Do you think they should be banned? What do you think if the woman wants to wear the burka?

Obviously, you don't have to answer these questions and I would understand if you don't but I would really like a woman's POV. Lately, I have been asking the women in my life these questions. To often I find myself discussing these issues only with men. And while these issues effect both sexes, they tend to be more in the woman's court.
