the US is a "constitutional republic" which is different than a "republic" or a "democracy". And the differences mean something.

<<Why are ERWers hung up on the term "Republic" so much? Republic means just that there's no monarch, period. >>

Exactly. They don't use the dictionary. Democracy and Republics are interchangable words and basically just mean rule by the people.

That was a new concept when the ancient Greeks came up with it e.g. the Republic by Plato.

The right wings insistence on the word republic, instead of democracy is part of the talking points they use. It has something to do with their shared script about individual freedom and states rights.

They still think govenrment is the problem and don't seem to realize in a democracy they are the government.

Their real problem are the very rich who are taking their freedoms away and using them to do it.

It is just part of their shared dogma/. Which is all they know.

They don't part from their script. Or even understand it very well. e.g. Palin and Beck. Both whom just make stuff up.
