I grant it that some of them became active in advocating abolitionism, but they were NOT working tirelessly towards it and it certainly wasn't in their highest priority in forming the Union. George Washington was President. He could've introduced an abolishment bill... It wasn't until 1865, in the 13th Amendment (speareheaded by Obama's fav. President), that abolition came. And we all know how the fine folks living south of the Mason-Dixon Line reacted.
