they could have chosen to conduct a proper investigation and if the facts & her story panned out then they could have obtained a sealed indictment arresting DSK next time he flew in to NY . Simple and smartly avoids all this embarassment & waste of everyone's time ...

The guy was on a plane preparing to flee the country (in the eyes of the detectives).

Can you imagine the political "sh*tstorm" that would have arisen were it to get out that they had the chance to take him into custody and failed to do so?

The fact is that there was a criminal complaint filed against DSK. What if the complaint had been for murder, instead of rape? Would you still concur that he should be permitted to fly away pending the results of an investigation. An investigation, mind you, that would have lacked his own testimony and statement as to where he was and what he was doing at the time of the alleged crime?

No. He had to be taken into custody. And had he just fessed up and acknowledged that it was a consensual sexual encounter, instead of lying and making false statements under oath, his bail would likely have been substantially less. He created this mess he's currently in by attempting to LIE to the authorities about his role in this alledged crime.

But I can also sympathize with his plight. I think women who make such false allegations MUST be penalized by law for destroying a man's reputation. It's a crime to falsely accuse someone of a crime and make false statements and obstruct justice. It needs to be prosecuted, if only because of the damages suffered by the taxpayers as they were sent on this wild goose chase. These police and prosecutors were diverted from focusing on actual crimes.

Both the maid and DSK are guilty of making false statements and obstructing justice. They must be made to pay for those crimes. And DSK should not be treated so much as a victim, but as the liar and deceiver that he is. He should have just "manned up" and admitted that he solicited a "hummer" from the maid, and then let the evidence from the investigation confirm or refute his statement. Only then could I really feel true sympathy for him for being so falsely accused of having committed forceable rape.

So let's stop pretending DSK is "righteous". His lies contributed to costing taxpayers thousands of wasted dollars and man hours that could have been better spent pursuing actual crimes against the people of NYC.
