Not having an XP disk should not be too much of a problem. Some patience needed maybe.

but I have no idea how Microsoft determines whether you're authorized.

If the download works, you'll have an iso file that must be burned to CD.

OOPs, the download in my previous post was just the XP SP3, not the whole OS.
The only alternative I see is buying a CD of XP on eBay
