A person needs to be banned from a thread if he consistently refuses to comply with thread purposes, guidelines, and objectives.....which is not to say that he must always agree with the views of the moderator or any other poster...IMHO the airing of differing views is a vital feature of SI..

If you have the ability to completely filter out anything a member posts, along with anything that is posted to that member, tell me why that person needs to be banned? Your group can all agree to cyber-shun that person such that he disappears to you altogether. And at the same time the person has no right to complain about censorship. Are you that worried about what another person says that you need to censor him even if you are not seeing the messages or the responses?

Bingo! We're all adults here. If kids want to mess up our virtual playground, we can simply filter them out and all is well. Anyone who is incapable of doing that can argue with them to their heart's content, while we sip on a cold drink and carry on, as if they did not exist. Lovely.
