When Mrs Stowe met Lincoln he remarked to her, "So you're the little lady that caused this great war". There was an actual article recently on Stowe that advanced that very theory on the basis that it made the abstract concept of slavery concrete for so many people both in the North or South. If I was writing a history paper (I was a history major) you'd be right about providing sources. Don't have to provide sources on an opinion thread, but do acknowledge it is conjecture on my part. As that is the way a bunch of us proceed here--for better or worse.
