Inode, > Well who does O-MAN think is going to get the blame if HE makes the decision not to cut SS checks?

The Republicans.

If the debt ceiling goes away, no one will care.

If SS goes away, there will be hell to pay.

Which begs the question ... why do we have a debt ceiling? Maybe the libtards can answer that.

Conservatives vote against military spending bill

Nearly a dozen conservative senators took the unusual step Wednesday to vote against moving forward on a bill to fund military construction and veterans programs, vowing to oppose all spending measures until Democrats introduced a 2012 budget.

The House-passed resolution cleared a procedural hurdle in the Senate on an 81-11 vote, allowing the military appropriations bill to proceed. But the 11 Republicans who cast no votes were forced to go to great lengths to explain themselves.

“Obviously I have the greatest respect for our military, veterans and their families and want to ensure they have all appropriate resources and are given every benefit our country has promised them. They are patriots, and we owe them a great debt of gratitude for their work to protect and provide security for our country,” Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) said in a statement.

“Unbelievably, it has been 805 days since a budget has been passed in the Senate,” he said, “and we absolutely should not be considering any bill to spend federal dollars until we have done the basic job of deciding what appropriate spending levels for the year should be.”

In addition to Corker, GOP Sens. John Cornyn (Texas), Jim DeMint (S.C.), Chuck Grassley (Iowa), Ron Johnson (Wisc.), Mike Lee (Utah), Rand Paul (Ky.), Marco Rubio (Fla.), Jeff Sessions (Ala.), Pat Toomey (Pa.) and David Vitter (La.) voted no.

Sessions, the top Republican on the Budget Committee, lamented on the Senate floor that Democrats were moving to an appropriations measure without having presented a budget. Budget Committee Chairman Kent Conrad (D-N.D.) unveiled details of his spending blueprint this week but has not formally introduced the plan.

“How can we protect the military from unwise cuts if spending plans aren’t made public? The only area of government significantly cut in the unseen Democrat budget appears to be the Pentagon,” Sessions said. “If this is the plan from the Democrat majority, it should be made public and it should be debated.”

Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) moved to the military bill after Senate Republicans filibustered his nonbinding resolution that calls on millionaires to pay more in taxes to help draw down the nation’s debt. The Sense of the Senate resolution fell nine votes short of the 60 needed to proceed. Democratic Sens. Ben Nelson (Neb.) and Mark Pryor (Ark.) joined all Republicans in voting no.

Dave, if the debt ceiling isn't raised, the country will not be able to meet it's obligations. There IS no free lunch, and mostly thanks to the (R)'s, we have to borrow more than half of our lunch money.

I listened to a non-partisan bean counter explaining it the other day. Without borrowing, the US will only have enough cash on hand and current inflow to pay 40% of it's outstanding obligations. If we don't make the debt payments to current foreign bond holders, the world economy will TANK as it has never tanked before, including OUR economy!

Now, me, I'd rather see Obama pay the bondholders, pay SS, stiff Medicare and the military and shut down most of government. But, that's me..

You're right about the (R)'s capitulating though. The turtle-man's solution seems to give the House's "power of the purse" to Obama FOREVER! He'll be able to borrow money whenever he feels pinched!

Well who does O-MAN think is going to get the blame if HE makes the decision not to cut SS checks? What exactly is the bluff? That he's going to commit political suicide?

I'm disgusted at the Rs weakness in these negotiations. They were in a very strong position but failed to capitalize on it.

Insanity only looks a like a strong position to people who are insane.

And Obama has made it clear but you wingers don't seem to get it........he's ready to sacrifice his job over this issue. And frankly, I don't blame him.
