I am more and more believing this may be the only way out.

If they fail to reach agreement it may be the only way out...but I think the markets would have to have been roiled already...then we'd see the effects of the default and his actions would be more "justified"...outside the legality of the act itself.

They [the admin] have said it isn't an option. Geithner reiterated it this morning. They're not going to try this, and one can easily see why. If there is going to be a "crisis" they would rather deal with it now than a year from now. A deal is going to be struck.

The Rs put a deal on the table for 4T in cuts and 800B in taxes. Obama, out of hard-headedness, insisted on 1.2T in tax increases, clearly positioning for a deal at 4T and 1T, which I predict will be the outcome.

Imagine. A few months ago, Obama was unwilling to cut a damned thing, and Boehner has forced him to a deal to cut 4T.

This is a huge win for America. Even if it has been ugly getting there.

WASHINGTON — A few days ago, former President Bill Clinton identified a constitutional escape hatch should President Obama and Congress fail to come to terms on a deficit reduction plan before the government hits its borrowing ceiling.

Clinton was NOT "identifying a constitutional escape hatch". Anyone who sees this remark as such doesn't have a clue WTF is going on.

Clinton was telling Obama, "You fool. You don't have any idea how to negotiate a deal like this. You don't go our and scare the shit out of the markets. You tell the opposition, 'If you don't give me what I'm after, here's what we're going to do".

This is, essentially, Clinton telling Obama he's clueless. And Clinton is absolutely correct.
